About this tool

Base64 represents binary data using 64 printable characters, so it can travel safely in JSON, email, URLs and HTTP headers. This tool encodes your text as UTF-8 first, so emoji and non-Latin scripts round-trip correctly (unlike plain btoa()). URL-safe mode swaps +/ for -_ and drops padding, as used in JWTs. To encode images, use our image to Base64 converter.

FAQ

Is my data sent to a server?

No. DevKnife tools run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste — API keys, tokens, customer data — is transmitted or logged, so it is safe for production data.

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption — anyone can decode it. Never use it to protect passwords or secrets.
